A Sense of Place is funded by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The Institute is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. The Institute works at the national level and in coordination with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture, and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development. SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN ART MUSEUM

 Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) is one of LEO's key partners in A Sense of Place, providing interactive videoconference programs to a dozen LEO libraries from the metropolitan museum in Washington, DC.

 

 

 

OREGON MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY

Together, LEO and OMSI formed the STARS program - Science, Technology And Rural Students. OMSI has brought a wealth of programs to Eastern Oregon communities through the partnership and plays a major role in assisting LEO with outreach services to underserved communities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

OREGON COUNCIL FOR THE HUMANITIES

Oregon Council for the Humanities (OCH) plays a pivotal role in bringing humanities programs to rural LEO communities. Scholars provide information and lead discussions on a wide range of topics through OCH's Chautauqua and conversation programs.

 

 

 

CASCADIA METEORITE LABORATORY - PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY

Scientists at the meteorite lab at Portland State University's Geology Department are engaged in a public outreach program through LEO where programs - and $15,000 worth of meteorites - are brought to rural schools and libraries across Eastern Oregon with 55 communities reached so far.
